The gauging system takes account of the function of the screwed joints and of practical installation requirements. The cylindrical internal thread is therefore gauged with a conical screw limit plug gauge with a 1:16 taper. In this case the screw limit plug gauge represents the conical external thread according to DIN 2999.

Conversely, the conical external thread is gauged with a cylindrical screw limit ring gauge. In this case the screw limit ring gauge represents the cylindrical internal thread according to DIN 2999.
