1.1 JDM F21 specifies the requirements for electroplated zinc nickel coating for fasteners (see note 1) or hydraulic connectors and hose fittings made of steel or of copper alloy. JDM F21 specifies coating thicknesses and other coating requirements, and gives recommendations for hydrogen embrittlement relief for parts with high tensile strength or with high core or surface hardness. The coating is specified according to ISO 15726.
Note 1 Fasteners can include: pins, snap rings, washers, spring rings, screws, threaded bolts, and nuts.
1.2 JDM F21 applies primarily to electroplated coatings on threaded fasteners and hydraulic connectors and hose fittings. JDM F21 may also be used on non-threaded fastener and fastener accessories. The appearance for parts with JDM F21A is a dull charcoal gray.
Note 2 JDM F21 provides increased corrosion resistance compared to JDM F19.
