Allied Titanium, Inc. was spun out of a marine repair company in 2007 after a series of people were injured and killed by falling masts on tourist sailboats in Hawaii. The masts fell due to corrosion and the owner of the marine repair company (and now Allied’s CEO) swore he would stay away from stainless steel forever.
