Compared with the January 1940 issue of DIN 82, the standard denomination “knurl” has been adopted for all types, since the previous denomination “diamond knurling” and “negative diamond knurling” were not used consistently, and hence difficulties arose in the choice of tools. Some types of knurl have been given briefer denominations, such as left-hand knurl, right-hand knurl, left-hand/right-hand knurl.
