This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the method of test for obtaining characteristic value for tightening (hereafter referred to as “tightening characteristic value”) by combination of bolts and nuts. In this Standard tightening characteristic values to be objective are torque coefficient, coefficient of friction between threads, coefficient of friction between bearing surfaces, yield clamping force, yield tightening torque and ultimate clamping force.

Further, this Standard is applicable, as appropriate to cases of obtaining tightening characteristic values of threaded parts other than bolts and nuts, and tightening characteristic values of combinations of threaded parts and screw threads of construction body. However, this is not applicable to cases where tightening characteristic values of set screws to give compressive force external threaded fasteners, wood screws and tapping screws for tapping by external threaded fastener its self, as well as of threaded fasteners given special self-locking function are to be obtained.
