1. Fastener Market in 2026 and Outlook for 2027

2026 in review: strong in North America, soft in Europe, price-led everywhere. Global industrial fastener demand is growing at a steady rather than spectacular pace. Mordor Intelligence sizes the market at about US$92.1 billion in 2026 and projects about US$113.3 billion by 2031 (roughly 4.2% a year). The real momentum has been in North America: the Baird/FCH Fastener Distributor Index has stayed above 50 for 16 straight months, hitting 60.0 in June (its best reading since mid-2021) and 58.3 in August. Fastenal’s third-quarter sales rose 15.5% and September daily sales grew 14.4%, helped by data-center construction, heavy manufacturing and non-residential building. Much of this growth is pricing: about 83% of surveyed distributors reported higher year-over-year prices in August, and 41% reported slower supplier deliveries. Europe, by contrast, has been broadly flat because of high energy costs and a weak automotive sector (construction and automotive still make up about 40% of EU fastener demand). Asian exporters feel the squeeze: Taiwan’s fastener exports fell 11.5% by volume in January-April 2026 even as unit prices rose 7.3%. India and ASEAN, supported by manufacturing and automotive investment, are the growth pockets.

Tariffs and input costs are the defining story. The U.S. restructured its Section 232 steel and aluminium tariffs effective 6 April 2026, moving many steel fasteners to a 50% rate assessed on full product value, and legal challenges to earlier valuation methods are still running. Higher crude oil, energy and freight costs have added raw-material pressure; Taiwan’s CSC raised bar and wire-rod prices by NT$1,000 per tonne in Q2.

2027 outlook: cautiously positive, with pricing and policy as the swing factors. Global steel demand is forecast to rise from about 1.724 billion tonnes in 2026 to 1.762 billion tonnes in 2027 (+2.2%), and industry panelists expect relatively stable fastener demand through 2027 in structural, automotive, heavy-equipment and machinery segments, with tariffs the dominant uncertainty. Four things to watch: (1) whether data-center and infrastructure projects shift from build-out to lower-volume maintenance; (2) tariff litigation and any further Section 232 changes; (3) energy and freight costs; and (4) the pace of any European recovery. Expect continued supply-chain diversification toward India, Southeast Asia and Mexico, a premium on quality and certification (EV, aerospace, offshore wind), and renewed emphasis on face-to-face supplier relationships. 4. Conclusion: Which 2027 Fastener Trade Shows Should You Attend?

The 2027 calendar is front-loaded: a dense run from January to May across Europe, India, China and the U.S., then a quieter second half anchored by Mexico and Phoenix. Several major shows are biennial and fall in even years, so they are absent in 2027: Fastener Taiwan (Kaohsiung), Fastener Fair Italy (Milan), Fastener Expo Eurasia (Istanbul) and the Cologne EISENWARENMESSE all return in 2028 or later. That makes Stuttgart the single European anchor for the year.

Tier 1 – Priority for most fastener professionals

• Fastener Fair Global (6-8 April, Stuttgart). The only 2027 show that brings European distributors and OEM buyers together with suppliers from Asia, India, Turkey and the Americas at global scale (about 1,000 exhibitors and 11,000 visitors in 2025). Attend as a manufacturer, importer, distributor or equipment supplier.
• International Fastener Expo (about 29 September-1 October, Phoenix). North America’s largest fastener event and the best single place to meet U.S. distributors and importers while tariff rules are reshaping supply chains. Confirm dates with the organizer.

• Fastech Expo (19-21 January, Warsaw): a new show to scout for Central and Eastern Europe; wait for first-edition feedback before committing a large budget.
• National Hardware Show (9-10 March) and International Hardware Fair Italy (5-6 May): best for professionals whose business leans toward hardware, DIY and retail channels rather than pure industrial fasteners.
